Director of Preconstruction | 25 Years of Service
A Career Built on Experience and Integrity

Meet Mike, Director of Preconstruction at Brown Construction, a Nebraska-based construction company known for excellence, integrity, and service. With 25 years at Brown Construction, Mike has played a vital role in guiding projects from early planning through design coordination and owner alignment.
Before joining Brown Construction, Mike spent 15 years with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) as an engineer in the McCook and Holdrege offices. His background in infrastructure engineering laid a strong foundation for his transition into commercial construction.
Finding Brown Construction Through Relationships
Mike first learned about Brown Construction through relationships formed at church in Holdrege. “I met several Brown employees through the church I was attending and was drawn to the people,” Mike shared. “Their character and commitment made me want to learn more about what they were doing.”
What Mike Does as Director of Preconstruction
In his current role, Mike works closely with Brown’s Business Development, Estimating and Design teams, as well as architectural partners and engineers, to prepare plans for upcoming projects. He coordinates drawings to ensure design alignment and to meet Owner expectations, a responsibility he finds especially rewarding.
Projects That Made a Lasting Impact
Throughout his career, Mike has been involved in many meaningful projects. Some of the most memorable include church construction and ministry expansion projects, such as a church expansion in Greeley, Colorado, and a church remodel in Sumner, Nebraska.
“Helping churches and ministries find solutions and building long-term relationships has been one of the greatest blessings of my career,” Mike said.
"The reason these 2 projects had an impact on me, was the contrast in the project size. Both provided a unique platform for finding solutions to communicated challenges."
Growing Through Challenges and Mentorship
One of Mike’s biggest professional challenges was transitioning from transportation engineering to vertical construction. Even today, he continues learning — something he credits to the patience and mentorship of Brown Construction leadership, project managers, superintendents, and the Brown Design team.
Earning his contractor’s license early in his career remains one of his most satisfying accomplishments.
Inside the Brown Construction Culture
When describing Brown Construction’s company culture, Mike says it is “intense and driven for excellence.” He values the company’s emphasis on honesty, character, and serving others, noting that Brown consistently encourages both professional and personal growth.
What Motivates Mike Every Day
“I’ve never believed I needed the perfect job,” Mike shared. “Work is a God-given blessing, and my time at Brown Construction has truly been a blessing.”
Life Outside the Jobsite
Outside of work, Mike enjoys time with his wife Brenda, whom he’s been married to for 38 years, along with their children and grandchildren. He also enjoys hiking and throwing a Frisbee with family. A fun fact many may not know: Mike once dreamed of becoming a band director.

Looking Ahead: The Future at Brown Construction
As Mike looks toward retirement in the next few years, he plans to stay active at church, community service, and personal health. His advice to new employees is simple:
“If you work hard, treat people well, and respond positively both challenges and new responsibilities, Brown Construction offers tremendous opportunity.”
Why Mike Believes in Brown Construction
Reflecting on his 25 years, Mike says what sets Brown Construction apart is its commitment to those we serve. “Brown goes above and beyond to find solutions for clients — often behind the scenes and without recognition. That tenacity and drive is what makes this company special.”
