Interior Designer/Drafter | 3 Years of Service

Mike Leigh at Brown Construction

At Brown Construction, our team is made up of individuals who bring creativity, passion, and purpose to everything they do. Today, we’re highlighting Alyssa Lopez, an Interior Designer/Drafter who has been making an impact for the past three years.

From Student to Designer

Before joining Brown Construction, Alyssa was studying Interior Design at the University of Nebraska at Kearney while gaining hands-on experience through an internship at a local kitchen and bath design company. Her journey to Brown began through a personal connection. She first heard about the company from a friend already on the team, and the opportunity quickly felt like the right fit.

Designing with Purpose

In her role, Alyssa spends her days developing plans and details, selecting finishes, and reviewing submittals. Each project brings something new, but one stands out above the rest, a church in Grand Island.

“Being at their opening ceremony and seeing the impact firsthand was a memorable moment,” she shares.

It’s that sense of purpose that continues to drive her work. Knowing that each project contributes to something bigger, especially in spaces designed for community and worship, adds deeper meaning to her role.

Growth Through Experience

Since joining Brown Construction, Alyssa is most proud of how much she has grown as both a drafter and designer. Like many in the construction industry, she’s faced the challenge of learning the many layers of the building process. Her approach? Take each project as an opportunity to learn and improve.

She’s also grown in confidence—becoming more vocal and sharing her ideas, which has helped her evolve both personally and professionally.

A Culture That Cares

What stands out most to Alyssa about working at Brown Construction is the culture.

“You are treated more than just an employee. Everyone shows a lot of care and compassion.”

She also values the company’s strong sense of attitude, noting that a positive mindset, especially during stressful times, makes all the difference in creating a supportive work environment.

Life Outside the Office

Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her husband, Freddy, and their two dogs, Buddy and Cooper. Whether she’s golfing, relaxing at home, or picking up a new craft hobby, she’s always finding ways to stay creative. She’s also currently learning Spanish with the goal of becoming fluent—just one example of her drive to keep growing.

Looking Ahead

In the next 3–5 years, Alyssa hopes to continue developing her skills and earn her interior design certification. She’s especially excited about evolving design trends, particularly the shift toward incorporating more warmth and color into finishes.

Words of Advice

For anyone just starting at Brown Construction, Alyssa offers simple but important advice:

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It’s a great place if you are just starting out or looking to grow.”

Making an Impact

Through her work, Alyssa strives to bring fresh ideas to each project while contributing to a positive team environment. For her, the most rewarding moments come from seeing the joy that completed projects bring to communities—especially within church settings.

“It’s a great environment with people who care about you professionally and personally.”
