Interior Designer/Drafter | 5 Years of Service

At Brown Construction, our team is made up of individuals who bring creativity, passion, and purpose to everything they do. Today, we’re highlighting Marisol Gomez-Loya, an Interior Designer/Drafter who has been making an impact since joining the Brown team in late 2021.
From Student to Designer
Before joining Brown Construction, Marisol was pursuing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney while working part-time in the paint department at Menards. Her transition into the design and construction industry came during a season of balancing school, work, and discovering where her creativity could make the greatest impact.
Since joining Brown, she has continued growing both personally and professionally while developing her skills in drafting, design, and construction documentation.
Designing with Purpose
In her role, Marisol works on drafting plans, developing design details, and helping bring ministry spaces to life through thoughtful interior design.
One of the first projects she was involved in was LifeSpring Church in Bellevue, Nebraska, a project that remains especially meaningful because it was the first one she was able to see completed from start to finish.
“Every time the plans are shown to the owner and they can see their vision come to life, it’s always a ‘this is why I work here’ moment,” she shared.
For Marisol, being able to contribute to spaces that impact communities and ministry gives deeper meaning to the work she does each day.
Growth Through Experience
Since joining Brown Construction, Marisol says one of the biggest areas of growth has been improving her drafting skills and learning how buildings are actually constructed.
“As someone who has never worked in the field, learning how things are built has definitely been one of the biggest challenges,” she explained. “I’m a visual learner, so looking at previous projects and even using YouTube has helped me better understand the process.”
She credits much of her growth to the people around her, especially an early mentor at Brown who challenged her to improve and pushed her to continue learning.
Marisol also believes one of the most important lessons she has learned is the value of asking questions and leaning on the experience of those around you.
A Culture Built on Excellence
What stands out most to Marisol about Brown Construction is the unique opportunity to design and build churches.
“The concept of building churches is unique on its own,” she said.
Among Brown’s core values, excellence resonates with her the most.
“Striving to be the best we can be, not only as individuals but as a company is something I really connect with.”
She also values the supportive culture within the company and enjoys contributing to team connection and morale, including helping start the company’s “Brownies Committee” alongside a coworker.
“It feels like it has really made our team closer,” she shared.
Life Outside the Office
Outside of work, Marisol enjoys traveling with friends, trying new restaurants, attending live music events, and spending time with her dog, Charlie, who she received as a surprise gift for her fifteenth birthday.
Creativity has always been a major part of her life. In high school, her artwork was displayed at Museum of Nebraska Art, and she hopes to one day return to oil painting and continue growing her artistic skills.
If she hadn’t pursued interior design, Marisol says she likely would have become either a makeup artist or an art conservator.

Looking Ahead
In the next several years, Marisol hopes to continue advancing her Revit knowledge, become NCIDQ certified, and continue exploring the future of 3D rendering and modeling technology within the design industry.
She’s especially excited about how rapidly visualization tools and rendering capabilities continue to evolve and how they can help clients better experience their spaces before construction even begins.
Words of Advice
For anyone beginning a career in the design and construction industry, Marisol offers one important piece of advice:
“Ask as many questions as possible. When I first started, I assumed I should already know everything, but that’s not the case. Take advantage of the experienced people around you and learn from them.”
Making an Impact
Marisol is proud to be a first-generation college graduate and the first in her family to pursue a corporate career which is something that continues to motivate her every day.
“My family is what motivates me to continue improving my skills and growing professionally,” she shared. “Without their hard work, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Through her work, creativity, and dedication to growth, Marisol continues to make a meaningful impact on both the Brown team and the churches and communities Brown Construction serves.
